A while back I had a post entitled “Silence Speaks Volumes“. The summary of this post was about a thought that had been rattling around in my head at that time. How not making a decision at times was making a decision and how not speaking up and remaining silent said a lot. Lately with Casey and I talking about BOLD BLOGGING these thoughts have come back into focus. We had some great conversation tonight, which comes few and far between, after bath time.
We did devotions together after bath time. We sat down and I told her to pick a number from 1 – 31. She said 28 and I turned to Proverbs 28. We read through the chapter and chose a few verses to discuss. We had some great conversations on many topics that we will probably talk about on here in the future.
One that sticks out in my mind is Proverbs 28:1 “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
Which essentially says sin makes men cowards, but the righteous are bold. After digging a little deeper I found a great quote from Abraham Lincoln, “To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.”
I’m sure I will continue down this line of consciousness in the future, but this makes perfect sense to me. It is sin if we remain silent when we know we should speak up. James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
If we continually practice silence we will eventually get used to the silence and will never speak up. We will shy away from the tough subjects and general conversations. We will find ourselves in darkness. Sin loves darkness. We will not want to come out of the darkness in fear of what awaits us in the light. We become cowards in the darkness of sin.
We do ask of your prayers while we are prayerfully discussing things that we need to change in our lives and decisions that need to be made. This goes along with the life review that I posted on Tuesday. Spiritual, marriage, parenting, friendship all walks of life.
I challenge you to be BOLD today and speak out! I have my review today (Friday) 🙂
