What's In A Name?

What’s your name?  What does it mean?  How did you get your name?  Hopefully you at least know the answer to one of these questions!  Hello, my name is David.  It’s origins are Hebrew and means beloved.  So why did my parents name me this?  I pick on them about this.

Was I named after David in the Bible?  You know David, who defended the name of God against Goliath.

Was it because it was a popular name that year?  Did it just fit me? Was it planned all along?

Here is the real story 🙂

I was born on August 25, 1979.  Around that time there was something forming in the Atlantic Ocean….

I joke with them about it, but who knows.  I like my name.  A lot of people shorten it to Dave.  That’s fine too.  Would you change your name if you could?  How did you come up with your kid’s names?  Let us know?

  1. I promise, you were not named after the hurricane. That was a coincidence. As for me, Mama said she wanted to name me after my dad. It was either Carlene or Georgia. I like her choice. Your dad chose names for you and your brother.

  2. I was named after Daniel Boone’s wife. You think I’m kidding, but I’m not. Mama liked how they called her “Becca” in a book she read, so that’s where I got my name. Leigh is after the actress Vivien Leigh…you know, Scarlette O’Hara. Fitting, right?

CJ was named after his Grandpa’s, Charles and Jonathan and I love his name.

Derek Andrew was named after one of my teachers, Derek Ketner, and Andrew was named after my BOSS, Andrew Muir. You can look Andrew up online if you want, he is a fabulous man, and by biggest cheerleader when I was pregnant with Derek. David jokes and says he’s named after Derek Jeter and Andy Petite, which he’s not. 😉
