Creative Ways to Decrease Expenses, Increase Income and Strengthen Household Finances
Speakers – Chuck and Ann Bentley
“If your outgo exceeds your income your upkeep will be your downfall.” -Chuck Bentley
Even though we all know that this is true, it sometimes seems difficult to make this happen when we are living our everyday. Chuck Bentley is the CEO of Crown Financial Ministries, yet he’s the first to admit that it took him a few years to embrace this himself.
Chuck and his wife Ann shared some of their own experiences and how they decreased their expenses through the years. A $1000.00 a month grocery bill lead to better meal planning, stopping subscriptions to magazines helped curb the need for more “things”, and most recently traveling has led to the letting go of some pets so that they don’t have to be boarded. These don’t seem like drastic changes (unless you are a real pet lover) but could it be that making these simple changes could help you increase the gap between your income and outgo? I can attest to the fact that it can. We’ve made some seemingly small changes like these through the years that have made a huge difference in the long run.
Chuck also spent some time on the topic of home based business that families run to make extra income. This is a popular venture for homeschoolers many times because they are trying to support a family on one income. His most imperative advice was to never go in debt to start a home based business. He followed that advising people to start small because if it will work on a small scale it will eventually work on a large scale.

We’ve just spent a few hours at the conference today and already we’ve heard some encouraging and informative things on a range of topics. We are headed home now to see the kids but we’ll be up bright and early in the morning heading back to Winston Salem. There is still time to head that way with us, the NCHE does have on site registration! You can check out their website for more information. Make sure you look at the over $45,000 worth of free curriculum you could win!
