Happy Birthday, we’re new at this…

gavyn15blog-2   The good news is we’ve been 15 before, the bad news we’ve never parented a 15-year- old before.

So while you’re enjoying all the new experiences and exciting times that comes with these years, we’re sitting in a corner rocking back and forth.  I’m kidding,….well mostly.

In the last eight months you’ve spent a week away from home, taken Driver’s Ed, spent many evenings learning at the fire department, been on two weekend hiking trips with Civil Air Patrol, done relief work after a natural disaster, made it over halfway through your first year of high school, learned to play Foo Fighters on the guitar (bless you), and today….your drivers permit.  And yes I’m sure I’ve blocked out a few things as well.

All of that to say, we are so proud of you, and a tiny bit terrified.

But here’s our promise to you.  We will continue to seek His guidance and try to get more things right than wrong.  We will love you no matter what and offer grace when it’s needed.  But we’re going to get things wrong sometimes just like you are, and we’re going to need a little grace ourselves.

We love that we are getting to take this journey with you and we are praying daily for you and for us, that we can be the parents that He desires for us to be.

So Happy 15th Birthday to our oldest child, we’re in for this ride, let’s do this!

Next Up..

We have a new five-year-old in the house.  He’s been so excited about his birthday for months.  He’ll start kindergarten next year, how crazy does that seem?

This little guy is so fun to be around.  He’s maybe a bit dramatic, which makes him so funny.  It may also get him into trouble sometimes.

He told me yesterday he thought that he would stop whining now and listen better, since he’s bigger and all.

We love you Ezra, happy birthday!  We can’t wait to see what this year holds for you son!

And Blink, She Turned Three

Three years ago today…

Our little Liddiebug turns three today.  Three years ago today we were at the same pumpkin patch, she was born later that night.

We blinked and she turned three.

She’s a bit of a firecracker, this one.  But she can make anyone smile, and she has the most delicious little dimples.  A quick list of things she loves: pizza, ice cream, Special K, babies, clothes, makeup, and shoes.  She loves big.

This is her partner in crime.  Don’t they look sneaky?

We just love this little girl and can’t wait to see how the Lord is going to use this big personality.  Happy Birthday Lydia, we love you!

Freckles and Curls

This year you turn seven and our love for you has steadily increased since that moment you were born on that August day.  Your adorable freckles that you get from your daddy and your halo of somewhat uncontrollable curls you get from me.  You love everything about life little girl and I love that about you.

You’re a great big sister and I can always depend on your help when I’m organizing something.  I see us packing for many more vacations in the future, you’re my helper for sure.  And that laugh and smile that can light up the dreariest of days.  We can’t wait to see you continue to grow and see what God has in store for your future.

We love you sweet girl, Happy Birthday!

Nolan’s Nine

Today you’re turning nine, just one year away from double digits.  It’s been exciting to watch you grow this year.  You’re finding your own way, deciding your likes and dislikes, and not being as influenced by your older brothers.  Also, seeing you take on the big brother role to your younger siblings, you’re a great protector.  You are still one of the funniest kids I know, and your heart is so big.  There aren’t enough Lego’s in this world to build all the things you would like to at once.  You just started fiddle lessons and we can’t wait to see what you do with that.

Happy Birthday, my brand new nine year old.  We can’t wait to see where the Lord leads you in the future!
